Key Highlights
- Nashik Municipal Corporation to build two new elevated reservoirs in Tapovan with 4 MLD capacity.
- Sadhugram to expand from 350 acres (2015) to 1,152 acres for the 2027 Kumbh Mela.
- New 274 MLD water treatment plant at Vilholi to meet growing water demand.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is ramping up water infrastructure ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, promising a 24×7 water supply to the massive Sadhugram site that will host lakhs of sadhus and devotees.
Two new elevated storage reservoirs, with a combined capacity of 4 million litres per day (MLD), will be built in Tapovan to ensure uninterrupted supply throughout the religious gathering.
A sprawling 1,152-acre Sadhugram—up from just 350 acres during the 2015 Kumbh—is being developed to accommodate sadhus from various akharas. Officials estimate the site could welcome over 10 lakh sadhus during the event.
To supplement this, the civic body has also proposed a new 274 MLD water treatment plant (WTP) at Vilholi on the city’s outskirts. The facility will draw water from the Mukane dam through an existing pipeline between Igatpuri and Vilholi.
Nashik currently sources water from both the Gangapur and Mukane dams. While Gangapur is operating at full capacity, Mukane still has untapped potential.
