Nashik’s ₹2,100 Crore Road Overhaul Begins Ahead of Kumbh 2027

In preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a massive ₹2,100 crore road redevelopment project. The ambitious plan involves overhauling 61 critical roads across the city to ensure smoother traffic flow and better infrastructure before the mega religious gathering.

The last Kumbh in Nashik took place in 2015. This time, authorities are taking no chances — planning years ahead to manage the expected influx of millions of pilgrims.

Three Phases, One Goal: A Smooth Kumbh Experience

The road revamp is strategically split into three phases:

  • Phase 1: Upgrades to 23 major roads, including parts of Nashik’s inner, middle, and outer ring roads — key connectors to national and state highways.

  • Phase 2: Focuses on 29 more roads, including the Shahi Marg, a critical procession route during the Kumbh.

  • Phase 3: Covers the final 9 stretches requiring improvement and relaying.

Where feasible, road widening will also be carried out to reduce traffic bottlenecks.

Funds Flow and Progress Report

An NMC official confirmed that ₹373 crore is required to complete the first leg of the project by March 2026. The remaining budget will be allocated in the following fiscal year.

In parallel, a ₹15,000 crore master proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government. Of this, the PWD has dedicated ₹4,000 crore for roads, nine bridges, and essential infrastructure.

Drainage, Sewage & More

As part of the larger plan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed officials to prioritize projects needing at least two years to complete.

Already, tenders worth ₹1,475 crore have been finalized for 22 locations across Nashik, involving:

  • Sewage treatment plants

  • Pumping stations

  • Nullah diversions

These upgrades will ensure environmental safety and water management during the Kumbh.

A City Gearing Up for the Grand Kumbh

From roads to sanitation, Nashik is going all out to deliver a seamless Kumbh experience in 2027. With significant investment and careful planning already underway, the city is poised to set a new standard for hosting religious gatherings.
