Essential Packing List
You may have to walk long distances at the Kumbh Mela, so keep your luggage as light as possible. Here is a detailed checklist of what you should carry.
Clothing & Footwear
- ✓ Cotton Clothes: Light and comfortable cotton clothes will save you from the heat.
- ✓ Extra Pair of Clothes: Keep extra clothes and a towel to change into after the holy dip.
- ✓ Comfortable Footwear: Wear comfortable sports shoes or sandals for walking. Use slippers at the ghats.
- ✓ Hat or Scarf: Keep something to cover your head to avoid direct sunlight.
Documents & Essentials
- ✓ ID Proof: Carry your original Aadhaar Card or any other valid government ID along with a photocopy.
- ✓ Cash & Change: ATMs or UPI may not work everywhere due to network issues. Carry enough cash and small change.
- ✓ Power Bank: A power bank is highly essential to keep your mobile charged on the go.
- ✓ First-Aid Kit: Medicines for fever, pain, stomach upset, band-aids, and ORS packets.
What NOT to Bring?
- ✗ Do not wear expensive gold or diamond jewelry.
- ✗ Avoid unnecessary heavy luggage or bulky suitcases. A backpack is the best choice.
- ✗ Weapons of any kind, sharp objects, or flammable materials are strictly prohibited.
Pooja Samagri Checklist
- ✓ Gangajal: Carry Gangajal from home for the sacred bath.
- ✓ Incense & Diya: Carry incense sticks, a ghee lamp, and a matchbox for puja.
- ✓ Prasad & Flowers: Bring prasad and flowers for temple darshan.
- ✓ Puja Thali: Keep roli, akshat, and chandan in a small steel plate.
Health & Hygiene Kit
- ✓ Sunscreen (SPF 50+): Sunscreen is essential in the intense April-May heat.
- ✓ ORS Packets: ORS is crucial to prevent dehydration in the crowd and heat.
- ✓ Hand Sanitizer: To keep hands clean before and after meals.
- ✓ Water Bottle: Always carry your own water bottle and drink water every hour.
- ✓ Mask & Handkerchief: For protection from dust and smoke in crowded areas.
Tech & Connectivity
- ✓ Power Bank (10,000 mAh+): Charging points are rare in crowds. Always carry a minimum 10,000 mAh power bank.
- ✓ Download Offline Maps: Download the "Ujjain" offline map on Google Maps before leaving. Network is extremely slow in crowds.
- ✓ Carry a Jio/BSNL SIM: Jio and BSNL networks perform relatively better during the Mela. Carrying an extra SIM is helpful.
- ✓ Torch/Flashlight: You may leave at 2-3am for Shahi Snan. Carry a small torch besides your phone flashlight.
