Ujjain administration has started preparing an extensive crowd management blueprint for Simhastha 2028, where more than 30 crore pilgrims are expected to participate. With heavy footfall anticipated on major bathing days, officials are working to ensure that the city’s systems do not get overwhelmed.
To handle the rush of devotees arriving via rail routes, a joint team of mela authorities, district administration and railway officials has finalised a crowd-control strategy. The key decision: pilgrims will be stopped at stations before Ujjain Junction on bathing days to prevent bottlenecks at the main station.
Pilgrims to be Held at Pre-Marked Stations
Stations on all three major incoming routes — Ratlam, Indore and Bhopal — have been identified. Pilgrims will be made to halt at these points and then transported to the Simhastha and riverbank areas via road.
Railways have already begun arranging shade, drinking water, restrooms, and power supply at these designated stations to manage the temporary stay of large crowds.
Route-Wise Station Plan
- Ratlam Route: Development work planned at Naikhedi–Mohanpura stations.
- Bhopal Route: Trains from Bhopal–Guna side will halt at Pingleshwar and Panwasa stations.
- Indore Route: Facilities to be created at Vikram Nagar and Chintaman stations for passenger holding.
Four Helipads Under Construction for VIPs
For VIP arrivals during Simhastha, the administration is constructing dedicated helipads at Sadaawal. Collector Roshan Kumar Singh said four helipads are being developed at a cost of ₹13.45 crore. He added that connectivity from designated train stations to Simhastha zones is also being strengthened.
