Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh | November 2025 — The Madhya Pradesh government has launched a major riverfront development push, aligning with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s vision to make the Shipra River cleaner, accessible, and ready for Simhastha and other major religious gatherings.
A massive ₹778-crore project is underway to build 29 km of new ghats along the Shipra. Construction is progressing rapidly near the Mangalnath Temple, where a modern ghat is taking shape.
Alongside the new ghats, the government is also upgrading 9 km of permanent ghats. This improvement, costing ₹120 crore, aims to enhance convenience, cleanliness, and crowd management.
Officials estimate that once completed, the new system will support up to 2.5 crore devotees bathing within 24 hours, significantly reducing congestion during peak pilgrimage days.
The new ghats will feature attractive lighting, better accessibility, and modern facilities. Dedicated changing rooms are being built to ensure pilgrims face no inconvenience. All ghats under this plan are designed as permanent, long-term structures to support Ujjain’s growing religious tourism.
