With just a few years left for the grand Simhastha 2028 Mahaparv, the Ujjain administration has accelerated major infrastructure and river-revival projects. On Tuesday, Divisional Commissioner Ashish Singh and Collector Roshan Kumar Singh inspected the ongoing works at the Sewarkhedi–Silarkhedi Project and the Kanha Closed Duct Project, accompanied by local media representatives.

Officials briefed reporters on the progress and technical details of both projects, aimed at keeping the Shipra River clean and continuously flowing throughout the year.

Keeping the Shipra Alive All Year

Commissioner Ashish Singh said the ₹614.53 crore Sewarkhedi–Silarkhedi Project will help maintain a constant water flow in the Shipra River.
Under the plan, monsoon water from the Sewarkhedi Barrage will be diverted and stored in the Silarkhedi Reservoir, ensuring the river remains active even during summer. The project is targeted for completion within 30 months.

Kanha Closed Duct to Stop Pollution

To prevent contamination of the sacred river during the Simhastha, work is progressing rapidly on the Kanha Closed Duct Project. Stretching 30 kilometres, the system combines cut-and-cover and tunnel sections for efficient flow management.
It includes four large shafts designed for maintenance and cleaning using advanced equipment. After completion, the implementing agency will operate and maintain the system for 15 years.

 Simhastha 2028 – ₹20,000 Crore Development Push

Speaking at a media briefing at Hotel Anjushree, Collector Roshan Kumar Singh said over ₹20,000 crore worth of projects are underway in Ujjain for Simhastha 2028 — covering roads, bridges, ghats, water supply, sewerage, and tourism infrastructure.
He added that this Simhastha aims to be a “Zero Waste Event,” promoting environmental sustainability and long-term urban growth.
Authorities expect around 30 million devotees to visit Ujjain during the festival.
