New Bathing and Transport Rules at Maha kumbh Mela: Key Updates for Devotees
Uttar Pradesh officials have introduced new bathing and transportation rules to manage record crowds at the Maha kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Over 500 million devotees are expected to attend, prompting strict measures for safety and efficiency.
Designated Bathing Zones
Authorities assigned specific ghats based on arrival routes:
- Sangam Ghats: For pilgrims arriving via the Parade Mela area.
- Jhunsi Ghats: Reserved for devotees from the Jhunsi fair region.
- Arali Ghats: Assigned to visitors from the Arali side.
These rules aim to reduce overcrowding.
Transportation Guidelines
- No-Vehicle Zones: Implemented across the Mela area to prioritize pedestrian movement.
- Parking Rules: All vehicles must use designated lots. Only Mela Police-approved cars can enter restricted zones.

Special Vande Bharat Trains
Northern Railways will operate special trains on February 15-17:
- Train 02252: Departs New Delhi at 5:30 AM, reaches Prayagraj by 12:00 PM, and Varanasi at 2:20 PM.
- Train 02251: Leaves Varanasi at 3:15 PM, stops in Prayagraj at 5:20 PM, and arrives in New Delhi by 11:50 PM.
“These trains will ease travel for weekend pilgrims,” said Northern Railways spokesperson Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay.
Record Attendance
The Uttar Pradesh government reported:
- 76.4 million devotees on Mauni Amavasya.
- 7.9 million took the holy dip by Friday afternoon.
- The event now holds the record for the world’s largest gathering, surpassing populations of Brazil and Russia.
